Fight for Voluntary Assisted Dying Laws in South Australia

A Voluntary Assisted Dying law has been operating safely and effectively in Victoria for over 12 months. A similar law passed in Western Australia last year. One in three Australians will soon have the choice of voluntary assisted dying.

The South Australian Parliament’s Joint Committee on End of Life Choices reported in October and a new Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill is due to be tabled in the South Australian Parliament this month.

It's time to ACT NOW and ask MPs to support an end of life care package.

Ask your MP to support an end of life care package of increased funding for palliative care, more promotion of Advanced Care Directives in the general community and the medical community, and the choice of an assisted death when palliative care can no longer make life bearable.

85% of the community want the choice of a voluntary assisted dying law but the law will only change if you take action.

How can you help? Use this automated form to email your local member and upper house MPs.

Things you might mention in your email:

  • Explain why you want voluntary assisted dying made legal.
  • Tell your personal story.
  • Do you have an incurable or terminal illness?
  • Has a loved one or friend had a bad death?
  • Are you a healthcare professional who has been involved in end of life care?
  • Do you have a religious faith?
  • These laws are proven to be safe and effective in other jurisdictions.

What else can you do? Write a letter or make an appointment to meet with your local MP, write letters to local newspapers, talk to your friends and family and keep spreading the word.

Thank you for your support.
